I gotta say, 2010 started off swell…and then turned amazing when I got a little new years gift from the ‘bee! I’ll be honest- I have been compulsively, obsessively, pretty terrifyingly checking my Blackberry at every.single.beep hoping it was that little email that said “Weddingbee Application.” I am loving planning my wedding, and the biggest source of inspiration has been all of you, hive- every bee and every bride-to-bee here. I couldn’t wait to see if I would get the chance to share my planning adventure with you!
When the email didn’t come, but I started to see others that had heard back…I got nervy. I did the least patient, most spaztastic thing I could think of: I emailed Pengy and in the subject line typed “I think I missed my rejection letter.” Lucky for me, she didn’t immediately write me off as crazy… in fact I emailed her just hours before she was about to send out an email that would make my whole year (I mean, after that whole wedding day thing)! I know they say patience is a virtue…but they also say bluntness is…do I get points for having one and not the other?
Why the pencils? Well, it was a tough choice, I’ll admit. It came down to argyle and pencils and in the end, it was logic that solved it. I have no ties to argyle- other than the fact that I was wearing argyle tights when I found out I was going to be a bee (which is pretty sweet!)- but the pencils just fit. As Mama Pencils said when I called to tell her the news, pencils are perfect because when I was little, I “always had to have a new set of colored pencils and new paper!” As a former teacher, I adore all things related to the classroom (pencils and crayons and markers, oh my!) and if I could buy up the entire stock of Staples and Office Max, I would!
Where to begin? I was born and raised in Idaho (no, udaho). I moved to our nation’s capital for college a mere seven years ago and immediately fell in love with the area. January of freshman year, I stumbled (quite literally…it was a Friday night, after all) across the man who will become my husband in four short months (!) and to this day, we still disagree about what I was wearing. Yes hive, I share with you now the Pencils’ longest lasting argument- what shirt I was wearing the night we met. I’m pretty sure every single family member and friend has heard this argument, and, six years later, it remains unresolved. Ah, well…
Since that day, we’ve volunteered, lived abroad, graduated, traveled the world, adopted a puppy, bought a house, received graduate degrees and entered the real, live world- all together. Today we live just outside Washington DC in our little house with our little puppy, with our not-so-little commutes. Mr. Pencils is my favorite, and we fit.
We made it official nearly 17 months ago, on the beach in Ocean City, Maryland and have taken our sweet time planning a laid back, outdoor, distinctive, socially conscious May wedding and reception in Maryland and a July reception in Idaho.
I can’t wait to share our wedding with you and I am so floored to be the newest bee! Thanks for having me!
